The Lightning Thief
Authors like Rick Riordan are reasons why I love children's literature. Seriously. From beginning to end this book is exciting, cool and fun. Riordan is a history professor and you can totally see it coming through in his writing. His clever attention to detail and brilliant way of making Greek mythology come alive is, quite simply, masterful. Joseph Campbell would grin as he read this i think :).
